Our Approach

Dear Friends,

For 130 years, the Christian Civic League has stood at the intersection of faith and civic engagement. As we enter the 2026 election season, we remain committed to engaging both candidates and the Church, encouraging leadership in government that reflects a Biblical worldview.

In today’s society, few institutions rival the impact and influence of civil government, an institution established by God to uphold justice, promote righteousness, and protect its people. In many communities, the reach of government has grown so significant that it often rivals, and at times eclipses, the influence of the Church, with people looking to it for answers and security that ultimately can only be found in God.

Government is not the Church, and it must never replace or direct it. Yet it is a gift that must be stewarded well. As Christians, we have a responsibility to engage it wisely, recognizing its profound influence on our lives and on the lives of 1.4 million Mainers.

That’s why we’ve created this candidate survey: to help inform and equip faith-based voters as they prayerfully discern which candidates best reflect their deeply held values. At the same time, we hope it encourages greater engagement in stewarding our state and its governing institutions with care, conviction, and clarity.

This survey was sent to all gubernatorial candidates participating in contested primaries. We received responses from all but one Republican candidate and received no responses from Democratic candidates.
